Cadillac Converj Concept Car

Cadillac Converj Concept Car

The four-passenger Cadillac Converj concept is intended to show how GM's revolutionary electric propulsion technology - called Voltec - can power a luxury coupe with a typically Cadillac "no compromises" design. The technology enables up to 40 miles of gas- and emissions-free electric driving with extended-range capability of hundreds of miles.

Voltec - innovative propulsion technology

The Cadillac Converj's Voltec electric propulsion system is made up of a 16-kWh, T-shaped battery, an electric drive unit, and a four-cylinder engine-generator. It uses electricity as its primary source to drive the car.
A thermally managed battery pack contains more than 220 lithium-ion cells that provide the primary power to drive the Cadillac Converj electrically up to 40 miles without using fuel or producing tailpipe emissions. The battery is integrated into the Cadillac Converj's chassis and stores electricity from the grid when the vehicle is plugged in. It takes less than three hours to recharge the battery at 240V, or about eight hours from a 120V outlet.
When the battery's energy is low, the Cadillac Converj seamlessly switches to extended-range mode. During this secondary level of operation, electricity needed to power the vehicle is created on-board by a flex-fuel-powered engine that operates much like a home generator to create electricity. The engine-generator ensures a constant supply of power for hundreds of miles until the car is refueled or plugged in to recharge the battery. This extended-range mode eliminates the range anxiety that comes with driving pure electric vehicles that offer no backup power when the battery charge is low.
Whether in electric or extended-range mode, the Cadillac Converj is propelled all the time by an electric drive unit. It converts electrical energy from the battery or the engine-generator into mechanical energy to drive the front wheels. It also delivers 273 lb.-ft. (370 Nm) of instant torque, for a quick launch, and 120 kW of power. The top speed is 100 mph.
There is no compromise in vehicle performance in either mode of operation. To enhance the ride feel, the Cadillac Converj Concept also features GM's Magnetic Ride Control; and for even greater efficiency, energy during braking is captured and stored in the battery.

We have seen one wheeled self balancing DIY projects before in the form of the notoriously hard to ride unicycle. The Orbis is more like a one wheeled Segway in that it has handlebars making learning to ride the device significantly easier.

Tiger electric car concept

The 1925 Sunbeam Tiger was a supercharged V12 four-liter racing car, driven by Sir Henry Segrave at 145 mph (233 km/h) and was the smallest-engined car ever to hold the world land speed record. The Sunbeam Tiger electric sports car concept has been designed to "virtually" commemorate the 100th anniversary (1925-2025) of the Tiger's land speed record win. The Tiger concept car is powered by a Siemens 3 phase AC motor powering the rear wheels with a 26 kilowatt/hour lithium-titanate battery pack and has a curb weight of 600kg (1323lb).

AWD, all-wheel-steer electric sports car concept for drive on ice

While World Rally Championship cars travel at incredible speed on ice covered roads using studded tires, something with more surface area is needed for an Artic Off-Road vehicle. Taking cues off four track snowmobiles Norwegian designer Anders Gloslie designed the FROST as a concept proposal for TH!NK, an electric car company based in Norway.

MAZDA MINAGI CONCEPT

MAZDA MINAGI CONCEPT

The crossover concept is the first vehicle penned under new Mazda design boss Ikeo Maeda, and ushers in the automaker’s KODO design language. Mazda says the KODO design language “evokes a powerful and emotive sense of pent-up energy and vitality.”
Although information remains scarce, the Minagi concept will likely make production as the CX-5. Given that naming designation, it appears as though the CX-5 will slot beneath the CX-7 and CX-9 CUV models in Mazda’s lineup, likely replacing the aging Ford Escape-based Tribute.

No specifications were given for the Minagi, but the concept does feature a SKYACTIV engine and SKYACTIV transmission fitted to a SKYACTIV body and chassis. Hit read more for more pictures.

MERCEDES-BENZ TO TAKE ON BMW WITH ECO-FRIENDLY SUPERCAR

Not to be outdone by cross-country rival BMW, Mercedes-Benz is said to be working on an eco-friendly supercar of its own.BMW green lighted a production version of its Vision EfficientDynamics concept earlier this year.
According to Autocar, Mercedes’ green supercar will closely mirror the Biome concept that was penned at the automaker’s California design studio. The Biome was a low-slung, futuristic coupe designed for the Los Angeles Design Challenge. Hit the read more link for more details.

“There are elements within the design that could easily be progressed and developed for production. We were conscious during its development to ensure it wasn’t too limited or edgy. It had to be do-able without any significant changes,” said Hubert Lee, head of Mercedes’ California design studio.
Although the Biome concept car had a fictional drivetrain, the production version would use Mercedes’ latest green tech, most likely a diesel-electric hybrid system. If the Biome does get the production nod, expect it in showrooms by mid-decade.

2011 Tokyo Auto Show: Honda Small EV Concept + Honda Micro Commuter Concept

Aside from the AC-V concept, Honda will also be releasing two other EV models next month at the Tokyo Motor Show. Honda's Small EV Concept looks to be a futuristic EV version of the Beat or CR-Z convertible. It appears for now that this could be the concept successor to the S2000 or the Beat. Honda's Micro Commuter Concept is a battery-powered city commuter that would be accessible to the masses if produced. This would bring the EV accessibility down to everyone. Although vague, Honda states that this car will offer a new type of communication between people and mobility and will feature an easily customizable exterior. Surprisingly, Honda's Motor Compo electric bike will fit into this car.
