Toyota Innova Vx Vs Mahindra Xylo E9

While the Xylo wasn’t particularly attractive to look at, it did catch the fascination of a whole host of buyers. With acres of space being its prime USP & Mahindra’s impressive mEagle diesel engine under the hood, all at an affordable price, the Xylo did dent the Innova’s appeal to a fair extent. In fact, the Xylo ran the Innova close on many counts but somehow couldn’t better its Japanese competitor.
Mahindra has not thrown in the towel just yet with the introduction of the facelifted and, in many ways, better Xylo. Is the newer Xylo good enough to take on & beat the Innova that itself received a nip & tuck recently? Time to play judge.
Design & engineering

Blackened B, C & D pillars, matt finish footboards, & chrome on the rub strips & new roof rails are other indicators to this being the facelifted model. Clear lens tail lights & a new rear spoiler complete the makeover. While the changes do make the Xylo more palatable than before, the big Mahindra still won’t win any design awards.
In comparison, the more traditional MPV lines of the Innova look quite pleasing. Toyota has updated styling only recently though the changes are not all that comprehensive, which is a shame given the Innova is nearly seven years into its lifecycle. In its facelifted avatar, the MPV gets a slightly wider & more upright grille which is complemented by restyled headlights that now stretch further back towards the fenders. The bonnet gets new ridges & there is also a revised bumper with a larger air dam & neat shrouds for the pod like fog lights. Frontal styling apart, you’ll have to be really observant to tell this is the updated model. The rearview mirror mounted indicators, new side skirts, reprofiled tail lamps & wider chrome bar on the tailgate are the only other giveaways of the redesign. What remains a constant is the Innova’s good build quality that makes it feel far better put together than the Xylo.
Under the skin, the MPVs are quite similar with both relying on body on frame construction. The Xylo’s independent front suspension uses double wishbones & coil springs while rear suspension duties are handled by a five link, non independent, live axle with coil springs. The Innova uses similar suspension hardware as the Xylo with coil springs on all four wheels, independent wishbones up front & a four link rear setup. Front disc brakes, rear drums & ABS are the norm here, with the Xylo additionally featuring EBD.

Review and Test Drive of new Toyota Camry all features specification functions new and latest model
Review and Test Drive of new Toyota Camry all features specification functions new and latest model
In the global scheme of things, the Camry is one of Toyota’s best selling models. It is seen as a sensible family car that is built to last an eternity. However, in India the Camry sells for its size & luxurious appeal. While the Toyota badge is a big draw for many, the lack of a diesel engine has always been the car’s Achilles’ heel. Moreover, being a CBU import, Camry prices have only risen over the years. Little wonder that Toyota has been unable to replicate the Camry’s global success here in India.
While a diesel engine would have immediately brought the Camry back into contention, the fact is Toyota simply doesn’t have the right engine for the job. So if the Camry is to sell with only a petrol engine, it had better cost less. & that is just what Toyota plans to do – reduce the price of the car by assembling it in India. It’s the car that you see on these pages that will be put on sale soon & we recently got to sample it on the outskirts of Delhi.
One glance at the new Camry & it instantly looks bigger & more substantial than the current car, despite the dimensions remaining pretty much the same. Toyota says every single bit of sheet metal is new & more than 90 percent of the parts have been reworked. So, in essence, the car is brand new, but the inescapable fact is it’s based on the same basic platform. Still, the car looks quite attractive & somewhat like a mini Lexus thanks to the angular headlights & big chrome grille. There is also a nice bulge on the bonnet that adds some character to frontal styling. View the Camry from the side & its upward sweeping beltline will catch your attention. The angular tail section is in keeping with modern design trends.
The resemblance to its Lexus brethren carries on in the cabin as well. The interiors are luxuriously appointed with a generous dose of faux wood & leather to have PETA go up in arms. Quality is improved from the earlier Camry but still not near the class benchmark.
The front seats are fully electrically adjustable to get that perfect driving position. What most owners though will be more interested in the rear seats which, we are happy to report, are exemplary in terms of thigh & back support. There is more space now & the neat thing is that the front passenger seat can be moved forward using buttons on the seat back. The buttons are within easy reach of the driver so that the fat cat in the back doesn’t have to move a muscle.
The Camry comes with a four-cylinder 2.5 litre petrol motor featuring Dual VVT-i & its 178bhp output is 11bhp up on the previous 2.4 litre unit. It’s matched to a six-speed automatic gearbox & we don’t expect a manual transmission to be offered when it is launched.
Push the start button & the motor fires up & settles into a barely audible idle. The engine is silky smooth & builds up revs effortlessly. Floor it & the box shifts down after a bit of contemplation & won’t shift up till the redline is reached at 6200rpm. There is also a manual triptronic mode if you want to play boy racer. If only it was in a sportier body; the luxury liner dimensions of the Camry can’t be expected to handle like a speedboat, & it doesn’t. The Camry felt a bit firmer than before and, though it rolls when cornered, it feels under control & isn’t disconcerting. The steering is also a bit too light & lacks feel, especially at high speeds. The suspension flattens the minor bumps & absorbs broken tarmac, but the car we

Thai flooding forces Toyota to trim North American production

TOKYO -- Massive flooding in Thailand has forced Toyota to trim U.S. auto output, as the company tries to conserve parts amid supply chain disruptions in the Southeast Asian auto hub.
Toyota cut overtime this week and is eliminating a Saturday shift on Oct. 29 at assembly plants in Indiana, Kentucky and Canada, as well as an engine plant in West Virginia.
"Parts availability from Thailand is not predictable at this time and is changing with the continued severity of the flooding," Toyota said in a statement.
Executive Vice President Shinichi Sasaki warned earlier the company was bracing for crimped supply of such Thai-built components as audio systems, switches, diodes and condensers.
The parts shortages have already shut Toyota's three plants in Thailand and forced production cutbacks in Japan. The next impact may be felt at Toyota's North American plants, he said.
"We don't know how big the impact will be," Sasaki told Automotive News on Wednesday, adding that the company was still assessing the status of the overseas supply chain.

Toyota GT 86 makes a compelling case for itself

Certainly for the moment, this is the biggest competition the Subaru BRZ has: its twin, the Toyota GT 86. The volcanic orange coupe was unveiled in another corner of the Tokyo Motor Show, and frankly, it's got a lot to recommend it. The frontal treatment is slightly different than on the BRZ, but the only digression out back is the lack of a spoiler, and the GT 86 looks pretty good without it.
Inside, it's a tale of two cabins. Clearly Toyota has brought a higher-spec cockpit to the party, and although you might not dig the red two-tone scheme, the iPhone cradle, toggle switches and white gauges are nifty. Of course, that niftyness will cost you a navigation screen, but these are exactly the kinds of choices the GT 86 vs BRZ crowd will need to make. Brush up on the specs in the release after the jump and take a walk around it in our high-res image gallery.

Toyota FCV-R Concept is otherworldly
Toyota is out to prove that the fuel cell vehicle isn't as dead as we thought. Despite the fact that a hydrogeninfrastructure is no closer to reality now than it was five years ago, the company unveiled its FCV-R Concept at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.
Engineers snugged the fuel cell unit beneath the passenger cell to preserve passenger and cargo capacity. The FCV-R Concept boasts space for four and their gear, and Toyota claims that the vehicle has a range of around 435 miles. That works for us. Currently, the FCV-R is only a concept, though it's interesting to see Toyota playing with hydrogen fuel cell technology once again.
Will the tech eventually make its way to the road? Here's hoping. Toyota has already made it clear the automaker wants to see the Prius range become its best-selling nameplate in the near future, and a fuel-cell version could be part of those plans. Hit the jump for the full press release.
TMC to Unveil New Concept Cars at Tokyo Motor Show
Toyota City, Japan, November 15, 2011-Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) will feature several concept cars to highlight its Toyota-brand exhibit at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show. The concepts aim to make fresh proposals concerning the dream and joy of motor vehicles under the concept "Fun to Drive, Again."*1. The show, under the theme "Mobility can change the world", will be held from November 30 through December 11*2 at Tokyo Big Sight in Koto Ward, Tokyo.
The Toyota-brand display will include a concept car that heralds a future where people, cars, and society are linked, as well as a compact rear-wheel-drive sports vehicle that reaffirms the joy of driving and the pleasure of motor vehicle ownership. Also planned for display are a diverse selection of next-generation eco-cars including a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHV), which represents the technology TMC considers best suited for widespread use to effectively meet CO2 emissions restrictions and the diversification of energy.
FCV-R (Fuel Cell Vehicle - Reality & Revolution, world premiere)
A practical sedan-type next-generation fuel-cell concept vehicle fueled by hydrogen, a promising source of CO2 emission-free energy that can be produced from a variety of sources and can be easily stored and transported. This concept model is a highly practical fuel-cell vehicle (FCV) that is planned for launch in about 2015.
With the fuel-cell unit located beneath the specially designed body, the vehicle can accommodate up to four passengers and boasts impressive luggage space. The fuel cell stack, consisting of a 70 MPa high-pressure hydrogen tank, has been improved to provide a cruising distance of approximately 700 km or more (under the JC08 test cycle; according to TMC).

Toyota Prius outselling battery supply

Toyota's third generation Prius has proved so popular that the cars battery supplier, Panasonic simply can’t match demand and as a result customer waiting lists now extend up to 10 months world wide.
Toyota to buy hybrid batteries from Sanyo

As previously reported, Toyota's Prius is currently the number one selling car in Japan with a sales volume up 400% compared with the same period last year, not including the 10 month waiting list, as a result Toyota are outselling their battery supply. Toyota and Sanyo Electric are now discussing the possibility of the auto maker buying batteries for hybrid vehicles from Sanyo, a person familiar with the situation told Dow Jones Newswires Wednesday.

Toyota's Hybrid Camry Concept Vehicle unveiled

Toyota has premiered its HC-CV (Hybrid Camry Concept Vehicle) ahead of the 2009 Melbourne International Motor Show in Australia. Using the same continuously variable transmission layout as a Toyota Prius, the new Hybrid pairs a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and battery pack, with the familiar Camry exterior lines tweaked in favor of aero efficiency.
The HC-CV is basically a body kitted Camry with the emphasis on aero efficiency. The front gets sharp lines, vertical fog lamps, larger lower opening and a streamlined upper grille. The sharp corners indicate aerodynamic efficiency, although sharp corners are more commonly found on the rear end of a vehicle to improve clean air separation. The "aero" theme continues along the side skirts, which flow into the rear diffuser, giving a sporty, functional appearance. The flat rear spoiler further enhances aero efficiency. The front fog lights and rear taillights are all LED lamps.
The new car is the second Camry to have a hybrid option as it follows the Hybrid Camry currently produced and sold in Japan and America. During spirited driving, the petrol and electric engines work together to provide 143kW of power. However when at a standstill or under light acceleration the car runs on battery power alone, with the battery being recharged via brake regeneration. If the US Camry hybrid version in any indication, the Australian based Camry Hybrid should get 7.1L/100km — a normal manual four-cylinder Camry uses 8.9L/100km.
Plans for the new hybrid was announced by Toyota Australia in June 2008 when it received $70 Million in taxpayer dollars for the project. Toyota plans to build 10,000 Camry Hybrids per year and the production version will be Australia’s first locally produced hybrid.
The premiere marks the start of a 12-month countdown to the car's launch and according to the company's senior executive director sales and marketing David Buttner, the concept being shown in Melbourne "is a strong pointer to the hybrid Camry we will manufacture right here in Australia from early next year."
