HONDA UPDATES GLOBAL ACCORD
A revised diesel engine and a myriad of detail changes mark the new year for the world-market Honda Accord, which is sold in North America as the Acura TSX. Hit read more for details and pictures.
The biggest revisions come under the hood, where the 2.2-liter i-DTEC diesel four-cylinder engine sees changes aimed at reducing internal friction to improve fuel economy and emissions. A number of aerodynamic aids including underbody panels and a larger front air dam help drop CO2 emissions by 9 g/km on six-speed manual transmission models and 11 g/km on automatic models.
In addition, a higher density foam sound deadening and thicker glass make the cabin quieter than before.
Externally, the Accord gains active cornering headlamps on higher specification models, automatic-dimming high beams and a subtly revised front grille. At the rear, the Accord gets a new chrome garnish and revised tail lamps.
Inside, sport-oriented Type S models receive half-leather seats and a black headliner, while nearly all models gain footwell lighting.
The refreshed Accord will formally debut in early March at the Geneva Motor Show before going on sale in April across Europe. Some of its styling and aerodynamics changes mirror the light updates bestowed on the Acura TSX for the 2012 model year.
